Problem Note 36043: Incorrect variable labels (ParameterEstimates table) and variable names (OUTEST= data set) for PARAM=GLM when specifying other than the last level
In the GLM parameterization (PARAM=GLM), the reference level of a CLASS variable for the hazard ratios is always the last sorted level. Which level is the last sorted level is, of course, dependent on other options such as the DESCENDING and ORDER= options of the CLASS statement. If you specify a reference level with the REF= option which is not the last sorted level then some names of the parameters (variable names) in the OUTEST= data set are wrong. Likewise, some of the variable labels in the Parameter Estimates table are incorrect.
In a future release, when this situation occurs, a note will be issued that the REF= option is ignored, the correct parameter names will be provided in the OUTEST= data set and the correct variable labels will be given in the Parameter Estimates table.
Note that when the GLM parameterization is requested via PARAM=GLM it is not necessary and perhaps not advisable to specify a reference level since the last sorted level of the CLASS variable will always be used regardless of any direct specification made. It is suggested that if you wish to control the reference level of the CLASS variables you may consider using the reference parameterization, e.g. - PARAM=REF which recognizes the REF= option.

fixed.
In the GLM parameterization, the reference level of a CLASS variable is the last level. If you specify a reference level which is not the last level (which you should not do) some variable naming and labeling problems result.
